Certificate in Retailing

CRS TAMU

To succeed in retailing today, a student needs to balance theoretical instruction with practical real world experience.  The Certificate in Retailing is the Center’s premier academic program, offering students a concentration in retailing to compliment their business degree.  This certificate provides an educational curriculum that develops the skill sets of the whole person, a necessity for students planning to become leaders in America’s second largest industry.

The certificate is open to all business majors and MS in marketing students.  It requires a defined curriculum path that emphasizes retail math, vendor relations, principles of merchandising, assortment planning, and store operations.  This knowledge base provides the foundation for our students’ success.  It is complimented by the certificate’s other requirements, which include an internship and participation in the Student Retailing Association (SRA).  The internship teaches lessons the classroom cannot – the intricacies of retail operations, the challenges of managing a team, the role of analysis in buying and forecasting, and the joy of exceeding your customer’s service expectations.   In SRA, students refine professional skills including networking, leadership, and career preparation.

Students that complete the Certificate in Retailing:

  • receive focused business preparation for a retailing career
  • possess a diverse skill set that includes workplace experience
  • understand that retailing is a blend of art and science
