GameStop is set to announce on Tuesday it has formed a GameStop Tech Institute with the Texas A & M Center for Retailing Studies in order to accelerate its high-minded goals to reimagine its stores and bring them back to life.

The GameStop Technology Institute will partner with marketing and computer science professors at the Mays School of Business, said Kelly Hollinger, newly appointed director of the A&Ms Center for Retailing Studies. The plan is to add more companies and universities as part of the institute. The academic hub for students will also serve as a venue to conduct training and recruitment programs for companies, as well as opportunities for career development. The main academic partners will be the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences and the Mays School of Business, though other academic units will participate on special projects.

Texas A&M plans to build a compelling, indoor/outdoor teaching lab for students, called Aplin Center. The first floor is reportedly also going to house a Retailing Research Center, the Reynolds & Reynolds Sales Leadership Institute, five active learning pods, and a roasted coffee bar.

Faculty at the Texas A&M System schools will be involved with research and technical initiatives at NASA Johnson Space Center, technological transfer programs, and access to NASAs unique facilities and laboratories. The Space Act agreement also will enable the Texas A & M System and NASA to collaborate to promote collaborative research, technology development, education and public engagement initiatives. By joining the best minds in the Texas A & M System with the best minds at NASA Johnson Space Center, this effort supports NASAs objective of becoming a recognized leader in innovation globally for space-based science and space exploration.

Through a Space Act agreement, students attending Texas A & M System schools are provided with educational exposure opportunities and real-world experiences by their interactions with subject-matter experts at NASA Johnson Space Center. Through its statewide network of 11 universities, comprehensive health sciences centers, eight public institutions, and RELLIS Campus, the Texas A & M System educates over 152,000 students each year, and makes over 24 million educational contacts through services and outreach programs. The largest student-run organization at the Mays School of Business, and fifth largest overall at Texas A & M, averages 1,000 members a year.
