FOUNDING PARTNER, RANDALLS FOOD MARKETS, INC.
Randall C. Barclay
1920-1991
For twenty-five years, R.C. Barclay was instrumental in establishing Randalls as one of the largest privately-owned
firms in Houston. His leadership, vision and concern for his associates and customers led Randalls to become one of the
premier supermarket operations in the country. Even though he never personally attended Texas A&M University, the "Spirit
of Aggieland" lived in his heart.
The Barclay Center, opened in the West Campus Library in 1994, was created through generous contributions given in support
of retailing education. It honors the late R.C. Barclay, a founder of Randalls Food Markets, Inc., who believed in both higher
education and the Center for Retailing Studies.
Today, over 12,000 students use the West Campus Library daily. It's facilities, anchored by the Barclay Center, utilize
state of the art technology to provide students and researchers access to the most current information available. The Center
is a fully electronic business and retailing reference library.
In 2006, Texas A&M announced that all patent and trademark records will now be held and accessible for users at the Barclay
Center. This acquisition further adds to the resources available to business students.
Additionally, the Barclay Display Case in the library's entry hallway showcases the products and services of successful retailers.
The case is an opportunity for sponsoring companies to increase brand awareness among students, display new merchandise lines, and
highlight their support of retailing education at Texas A&M University.
